Balancing through sound
IMPACT Day
5
Today was about discovering new dimensions of “noticing” as well as of “supporting and interacting”. The initial version of noticing in the beginning of the week was to the extent of mainly observing others’ speech and behavior. However, it is now about going beyond mere observation into providing one’s own input simultaneously. If supporting and interacting between participants have been about ideas and thoughts in one’s head, in today’s class of Process of Music, every participant was required to listen constantly (noticing) and create a sound (proactive input) that would blend into the rest of the ambience (simultaneous interaction). Process of Music encourages the participants to not only be active parts of the whole music making, but to learn the meaning of balancing through mixing various sound.

Expanding
IMPACT Day 4
Although we are into just
the fourth day of the program, I have begun to notice that not only there now
is a continuous wave of thoughts generated from each individual, but the
thoughts are expanding. The initial “knocking” seemed to have awakened more proactive
thinking and encouraged different perspectives. Collective thought from
participants is now verbalized, expressed, and thus more exposed. Such exposure
subsequently encouraged expansion of their creative energy.
Today we witnessed how our
ideas could be visualized through the means of multimedia. We learned how the
thoughts and ideas in our own heads now can be seen, heard and felt physically
through various equipment. Our ideas are now taking various physical shape and
form.
It was truly a productive
day during which our collective idea and imagination took physical forms and
the circling energy within each of us was expanding indeed. It was a day filled
with witnessing much more potential for artistic imagination from many of us.
Supporting and Interacting
IMPACT Day 3
Today was about inspiring and supporting each other. If yesterday was about acknowledging the inner energy “knocking” on our artistic minds and thoughts, and beginning to evoke each other to do the same, today was about being more proactive about “knocking” on each other’s minds through supporting and interacting, thus creating new ideas.

Circling (*Updated)
IMPACT Day 2
During the second day of IMPACT, I felt a
unique energy from each participant. When we participated in Music
installation session, there were various reactions: some nervous or curious while
others, shy. However, it is apparent that when we encounter something new for
the first time in life, we each construct our own opinions and thoughts. Then,
creative energy is generated within us, circling inside. Proactive noticing
“knocks” on our creative mind and this circling energy responds to it.
Our collective thoughts and reactions then
begin to connect with each other through sharing in various methods such as
Dance and Movement and Arts Collectives. A collective “knocking” on each
individual’s mind begins to generate collective energy in small groups.
This “knocking” begins as an utterly personal
and individual phenomenon. But through sharing, it is expressed within small
groups of five to six people. As a result, each creative and unique energy is
gathered and becomes larger. This phenomenon was reminiscent of a gathering of
precious and thoroughly individual art works in one place, or perhaps a
microcosm of the sheer diversity in our world.
By the end of the day, the rapidly circling
energy from each participant seemed to be an organic expression of art in itself.
